The FBI is investigating possible misuse by local governments of federal land in the Northwest and the Midwest to gather data on a number of social issues, the FBI said Friday.
The bureau’s Office of Inspector General announced in a news release that it was investigating possible improper use of land by local government officials, including by the city of St. Paul, Minn., to gather information on crime, homelessness and poverty.
The release also said the bureau is also looking into potential misuse by state and local governments to gather social data.
